DLP May and ICAD #1

May has been a really busy month - especially the last few weeks. All I have done for DLP this month is the May divider.  Of course part of that issue was that I made three of them before I got one I liked!  I have been struggling with the format for DLP this year. Not sure why but I am having a hard time with the three ring binder. Those binders are super cute - but still I am having trouble getting going with it.

In other news, ICAD started June 1st! This is my card #1. No prompts - just doing my own thing. Ink spray and acrylic paint.

DLP Name PAC and a Mother's Day Card

Hope you all have had a great week! I know last weekend was Mother's Day but I couldn't share this until after it had been given. ;)

This is the outside of the card I made for my Mom. I created an envelope out of a gelli print. I used the paper clip to hold the flap closed and decorated it with some ribbon and tulle.  I spent an evening earlier in the week just doing some watercolor flower "doodling" while watching TV. One of them was perfect for the envelope so I cut it out and glued it on.

Here it is with the flap opened. You can see the tag inside.

And here is the painted tag itself. We wrote our sentiments  and signed it on the back. I added another watercolor flower, wrote the words, and added the little flowers down the left hand side and some doodles and scribbles - and ribbon.

It was fun to make and I think Mom loved it.

Over at Documented Life Project this week the PAC challenge was "include your name in an unusual way." So here is my version:

I doodled my name on graph paper, colored it in with various gel pens and markers. Then glued it to a painted background.

DLP April PACs

I've been having a great time making these PACs (Pocket Art Cards) in The Documented Life Project 2016. This one was for the prompt "Make a pocket and fill it."

Lots of my gelli prints are in this little project. I made the pocket out of a gelli printed paper. Used a piece of gelli printed paper for the background of the card and the flower.  Inspired by Roben-Marie, Sandi Keene and Anna Freisen, I drew the flower on top of a gelli print and doodled on it with a stabilo pencil and paint pens, then cut it out and glued it to the card.

This one is "Fill your card with numbers." Again I started with a gelli printed background, then added layers of paint and scribbled numbers.  I drew a flower on some book paper and collaged it to the card.

Next up is "Use a color you usually avoid."  For me purple is one of those colors that I find I don't use often. I started with a teal gelli print and added the purple with paint and colored pencil as well as markers.  Reminds me of the '90s when teal and purple was sort of a stylish color combo.

This one is "Black and white."  I started this one with graph paper glued to the card then doodled with black markers and paint pens. I love color so much that it's hard for me to leave black and white alone!  ;)

This was a fun one. "Add a face."  Another gelli print for the background, then some fun with paint, pencils, and pens.

April unPlanner My Way

So I am jumping into DLP 2016. I have not participated yet this year because I don't really use a planner like this. I prefer a wall calendar.  I enjoyed DLP last year because the focus was mostly art journaling. But after seeing the recent video from Rae and Sandi I was encouraged to make it my own and do what works for me. It is referred to as the "un-planner" after all! So I decided to jump in with April. Instead of making a divider for the planner, I determined that what works for me is a folder that I can stash goals, to do lists, and inspiring things into.

I used a file folder cut down to size and folded up on the inside to create pockets.

I painted and collaged the folder.  Then I stitched gelli printed papers over the edges to reinforce it. I doodled the word "April" and collaged it onto some gelli printed paper and added that to the cover.
Doodles and some embellishments finished it off.

Mixed Media Face

Yaaaaay! So excited to be playing in Paint Part Friday again! I have missed all of you the last several weeks. There is just something special about this link party - everyone is so friendly and inspiring.  I hope you have all been having a great time while I was away. Sadly we had a death in the family so all blog and internet stuff was put on hold.

I have been working on a quilt recently. You can see that here. And I am happy to be back to an art post today.

This painting was inspired by Roben Marie Smith and a lesson in Documented Life Project. The facial features are collaged sketches of eyes, etc. But then I painted over them with acrylics - just because that's what felt right. I was pleased with how it turned out and it was lots of fun to do.

Busy Time!

Wow! it's been a busy few weeks.  I have been enjoying DLP and continuing to take some classes with Roben-Marie Smith, as well as participating in Jennibellie's Art Swap. Below is my journal page for DLP Ink/Before the ink is dry.

More Documented Life Project and Roben-Marie Smith classes!

The last few weeks have been a lot of fun! I am still loving the Documented Life Project and in addition to the challenges there I have also been taking some online classes from DLP and a couple from Roben-Marie Smith. So much amazing inspiration!

The most recent challenge from DLP - Watercolor/Water Under the Bridge:

The flowers are book paper painted with watercolor.  The other paint is acrylic. I enjoyed painting the book paper with the watercolors, but still think I prefer acrylics except when I just want to paint small amounts of color.

I'm still catching up some other DLP challenges and here is the page for Repeating Elements:

This was a lot of fun, too. This is based on the Journal Bound class from Roben-Marie. And speaking of Journal Bound - here is my version of book one from that class:

I absolutely love this class and this way of binding loose pages. If you have not taken this class I highly recommend it! I love working on loose pages and really needed to learn some binding methods. Roben-Marie teaches how to make two different books in this class. I still need to make the second one.

I am also taking Roben-Marie's new class Printmaker Pro as well as Cardboard Crush and Create It, Mail It, Alter It from the DLP ladies. The DLP classes are fantastic because you get four perspectives on the projects!  All of these artists are talented, and so friendly and professional in the videos. If you are interested in taking any of these classes - don't hesitate. Definitely worth the money!
